Twelve Bell Eliminators 27th March 2010

This year, on Saturday 27 March, all three eliminator contests for the National 12-bell Striking Competition are being held in London.
This will be a chance for London ringers to hear ringing at its very best, without leaving the capital. All are welcome.
The 21 teams battling it out will come from across the country: from Exeter to Stockton-on-Tees; from Bristol to Norwich;
from cathedrals (including St. Paul's) to country parishes (Hursley in Hampshire.)

The ringing will take place at St Martin-in-the-Fields, St Magnus the Martyr, and St Leonard's, Shoreditch, from 11.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Peter Sanderson, chairman of the Contest, says: "With such a fabulous selection of bells to ring on, the emphasis will be focused on brain, not brawn this year."
Results of each eliminator contest will be given at afterwards at the tower concerned.
You'll be able to find out all the winners in the post-contest pub, which is the Walrus & Carpenter in Lower Thames Street. It looks set to be a great day.

Open Day on Monday 5th April 2010

A Selection of Towers in the Cities of London and Westminster (plus a few others) will be open.

All the details are available here.

Please Note :
Under recent charity legislation day tickets may be gift-aided (in full) provided an additional donation of 10% is made, i.e. a minimum total payment of £16.50.
Gift aid envelopes will be available.
Even if you are only ringing at a few towers please consider a Day Ticket and, if possible, gift-aid your payment.
All proceeds from the day go to the Middlesex Association Bell Restoration Fund.

   Monthly 12 Bell Practice

Having been encouraged by the positive reaction to the recent London 12 Bell Striking Competition for the Whitechapel Trophy, it gives me much pleasure to announce that we will be holding a monthly 12 Bell method practice throughout 2010. These will be on the 2nd Friday of each month starting in January.
All will be held at St Magnus the Martyr from 6.30 to 8.30pm thanks to the support of the Tower Keeper, Dickon Love.

Note that these will not include the ringing of rounds or call changes as has previously been the case.
The expectation is that attendees will be competent on 10 bells (there are plenty of opportunities of ringing on 10 within the Association) and ideally have done some method ringing on 12 which they wish to develop further.

I do hope that these practices are supported. It's a big step for the Association and can only happen if the members vote with their feet.

New Child Protection Laws from October 2009

New legislation for child protection starts becoming law in October 2009.
We all need to know what the law will be, and how, in particular, it affects ringers and ringing.
The good news is that it is less onerous than was originally feared, thanks in part to Chris Mew's conversations with government officials.
He will be presenting a paper on the Child Protection rules at the CCCBR's AGM in May.

A tabulated list of the requirements for various scenarios is available here

   Easter Monday 2010 Open Day

Bells in the Cities of London and Westminster including those recently restored or installed will (mostly) be available on Monday 5th April 2010
Further details will follow when arrangements are finalised.

   Ringing and the Law

The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers wants all ringers to be aware that they do not ring in isolation, but are subject to national and church laws.

The Tower Stewardship Committee of the CCCBR has produced Guidance Notes to five areas in which conflict or problems might arise.
Details of how to access these, and an outline of what they contain, can be found in this CCCBR leaflet .

    Learning to ring

For details on where to learn try the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers Learn to Ring web page .
If you live in the Greater London area then contact Prudence Fay 5A Furlong Road London N7 8LS Tel : 020 7607 8950 for details of your local tower.

    Poloshirts and Sweatshirts

An order form for clothing will be available early in 2010.

    MCA and LDG mail list

There is a Middlesex (and London) eMail group. There are already over 90 people subscribed to it. The aim of this list is to make announcements, only.

If you would like to subscribe to the list send an eMail to mcaldgringers-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. You can also visit the Yahoo Groups web site. This web site allows you to subscribe to the list and has an archive of all mail sent to the group.

    Tower contact details

Following on from comments from some members of the Association, we have removed contact details from the site.
If you are happy for your details to be included, please e-mail those to be included and I will insert them.
It is important that as many contact details as possible are included.
